Azealia Banks has called former President Donald Trump “fat” in an Instagram rant, responding to a post shared by Candace Owens.
Earlier this week, conservative commentator Owens took to the image-sharing platform to promote his interview on his podcast with Joe Budden. A punchline for the promo included a line that said Owens discusses her “issues with feminism, the LGBTQ community, and the fat acceptance movement.”
Banks responded to the post by insulting Owens before targeting Republican presidential candidate Trump and musician Kanye “Y” West. Owens stood out as a Trump supporter during his time in office. gave Candace The host also made headlines for his friendship with West.
“These aren’t politics, these are opinions. And they’re tired as hell,” Banks wrote on an Instagram story in response to Owens’ post. “Donald Trump and Kanye are fat, and we saw Kanye’s fat ashy butt in the gondola… Where’s the disdain?… Why are we still coming for a few years old lizzo.”
While Banks has been critical of Owens, West and Trump in the Post, she has previously listed the trio as one of her favorite public figures.
Newsweek Representatives for Trump, Owens and Lizzo have been contacted by email for comment. The West currently has no listed representation.
Banks appeared to respond to comments about Lizzo during Owens’ appearance The Joe Budden Podcast. Owens has publicly criticized “Truth Hurts” hitmaker Lizzo on numerous occasions on his show and on social media.
Speaking with Budden, Owens accused Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Vivian Jefferson, of “gaslighting” the public.
“I don’t like the game that people play where they do something that’s obviously outrageous,” Owens said. “Like, you know, Lizzo shaking your cheeks, you know what that was.”
Owens called Lizzo’s racial displays “disgusting” and “misguided” before rhetorically asking: “Isn’t there a place that’s safe?
“And then she’s like, ‘If you don’t like it, that’s your problem.’ Like no, you’re playing the game where you do something outrageous, and then, when we get angry, you pretend I’m going to stop dealing with it, right?”
Lizzo apparently responded to Owens’ comments in an Instagram post on March 17, in which he lip-synced to the viral audio reel.
“Hey everyone, it has come to my attention that some of you think I have thick skin.” He mouthed. “I don’t. I never have, I never will. Everything you say from the bottom of my heart, hurts me so much, affects me, keeps me up at night; you are mine. Gotta get along, this deal’s got to go forward, right?”
Captioning the post, Lizzo wrote: “I literally just mind my own business, please keep your name out unless it’s something positive or genuine.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s weight has been a talking point in recent years. Back in February, the former star of Apprentice took to social media to criticize a photo that had been edited to make him look bigger than he actually was.
Trump posted a set of four photos of himself playing golf on his social media platform Truth Social, one of which he said was generated by AI and the other three were not. In the first photo, Trump appeared rather bloated with a huge belly. The other three, who did not appear manipulated, showed Trump to be more consistent in weight and size than his recent public appearances.
In a post shared on February 16, Trump wrote: “Fake news used artificial intelligence (AI) to create the photo above left. These are despicable people, but everyone knows it. Other photos include golf today. Hitting the balls. Show the difference, sadly, in our country you only get fake news!”
It’s unclear where the photo Trump has taken issue with was originally shared, though he said it was posted by “fake news.”
