Aleksandar Isak tops Arsenal’s list of sensational targets for the summer, as Mikel Arteta now looks to sign the forward who will complete his squad.
Newcastle United are fiercely resistant to selling the Swedish star, and will even try to offer him a new deal.
A lot could depend on whether Iske is aggrieved to leave, having proved a huge success after signing from Real Sociedad for £63m in 2022.
Although pressure from PSR regulations has created an expectation that Newcastle will have to sell to buy the 24-year-old at his best.
The Saudi Arabian ownership of the club intends to showcase such players. Isak has scored 23 goals in 36 games this season, amid a string of impressive performances.
It is for these reasons that the Swedish international tops Arteta’s list.
Arsenal looked at a striker in the January window but their own PSR restrictions prevented a move, with his position further affected by the lack of value in the market.
Arteta now sees plenty of value in Isak, although the club have a set price and don’t want to go into a long story where they go back and forth.
There is a short list of names that Arsenal see as strong targets ahead of him, and they would be open to moving on if a deal proves difficult to complete quickly.
The Premier League leaders will nevertheless test Newcastle’s position.
The Saudi-owned club’s hierarchy are nevertheless keen to make it clear they will not be pushed around, and have a specific aim to show they can match the likes of Arsenal over the next few seasons.
They will likely try to end interest in Isak by exploring a new deal, but his reaction could indicate how committed he is to the project.
