Anne Hathaway reflects on her emotional reaction to the first screening. The Idea of You At SXSW earlier this year, and how the rom-com was received is reminiscent of the response it received. The Princess’s Diary In 2001
Ahead of her red carpet appearance in New York on Monday, The Idea of You The world premiered in March in Austin, where Hathaway broke down in tears after the screening and told the crowd, “You have no idea what a gift you’ve just given us with your reaction, every little thing. I will never forget this screening.”
Looking back, Hathaway said The Hollywood Reporter The event in New York was emotional for a number of reasons, one being that “it’s one of my first streaming movies and so I just knew how special it was to see it with an audience, because it’s not going to be the way that it’s going to be.” It was going to film.
But another reason, Starr continued, was that “I was in a movie when I was 17 that got called. The Princess’s Diary – It came out when I was 18 – and the premiere of the movie felt like the premiere of that movie. When I was 18, it was my first premiere, so I thought that’s the way it works, and it can go so well, but at that level just the immediate audience love and embrace and Feeling, I don’t know, audience satisfaction, you don’t get that every time. Sometimes movies are deep, sometimes movies are more challenging.

Hathaway stars in the film as Soline, a 40-year-old single mother who begins an unlikely romance with 24-year-old pop star Hayes Campbell, played by Nicholas Galtzine.
Galtzine recalled how in their audition, Hathaway was “so open and so playful and I love that sense of acting, play and collaboration. It’s rare that you get that in the audition process. And to have someone as amazing, as incredible, as huge a star as Annie, to really open myself up to you, it was very humbling.
He also reflected on his time in “boy band boot camp” preparing to play the lead singer in the band August Moon, joking, “They locked me in a room for hours and they made me Forced to dance again and again until I put it on.” She credits choreographer Danny Vitale with helping her “ground my body in a dancer’s way.
