Andre Onana hopes Manchester United can still finish in the top 4 despite dropping more points in a dramatic 1-1 draw with Brentford.
Substitute Mason Mount put the visitors ahead ahead, scoring his first goal for United six minutes after the break.
However, three minutes later, Kristoffer Ajer converted Ivan Toney’s cross to present the Bees a well-deserved point.
United are actually 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, although they’ve a game in hand, and eight points behind fifth-placed Tottenham as their Champions League hopes fade again.
“I’m sad because we are Manchester United so it doesn’t matter who you play against. Wherever we go, we have to win,” goalkeeper Onana told MUTV.
“We gave up the match at the end. We did a fantastic job defensively, it wasn’t our best game, but the most important thing was to win. So yes, it’s difficult.”
Onana made five saves while Brentford had 31 attempts on goal and hit the woodwork 4 times.
“The most important thing is for the team to win,” Onana added.
“It’s good when you contribute and win. Obviously we didn’t lose that match, but the way we conceded that goal is bad for all of us because we are in this together. We blocked shots and defended together.
“As a leader and an experienced player, we have to take responsibility and always keep a positive attitude because this is the biggest club in the country.
We must continue to work hard and remain humble. I know we’ll stick together because we did last month. I hope we finish the season in the top four.”
Brentford have had a difficult season – they’re overloaded with injuries and lost all 4 of their first alternative defense against United.
However, Thomas Frank’s men are five points clear of the relegation zone and in the event that they proceed to play this fashion, they will don’t have anything to fret about.
“I know we lost too many games, but our performances were better than the points we scored, there’s no doubt about that,” Frank said.
“There are reasons, there are mistakes and there are margins. Unfortunately, that’s what football is like sometimes.
“But it came and we had a lot of good performances, and with all the setbacks and struggles this team has been through, we just have to keep going.”
