Good news, music fans! A Northern California beach house with serious rock ‘n’ roll connections just hit the market.
Built in 1920, the storied property in the unincorporated town of Bolins, a notorious beach town 30 miles north of San Francisco, is the former home of Jefferson Airplane lead singer, Grace Silk. In addition, the seaside haven has hosted fellow musical legends, including David Crosby and the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia. The spread of 4,074 square feet is on almost an acre of land with about 400 feet of picturesque beachfront along the Pacific Ocean. Most of the oceanfront homes in Bolinas sit on high bluffs. Slick’s former hideaway, however, is one of only two properties set directly on the beach. Other Owned by Mark Pincus, founder of social gaming powerhouse Zynga.
On the market just for shame $15 millionThe home has been owned by Mark Talosi, chairman and co-founder of Sock Group, one of the nation’s largest lifestyle accessories companies, for more than 25 years. Along with its rock star past, the waterfront stretch was once used as a gathering place for wealthy visitors who arrived by boat from San Francisco. Mansion Global Reportedly, the residence also served at various times as a hotel, a teahouse, a bathhouse, and a casino.
“I couldn’t find anything with that much beachfront property,” Talosi told the listing site. “It’s practically in the ocean and built on a sea wall.” The area itself, home to about 1,600 people, offers plenty of privacy and has long been a haven for artists and creatives, including actress Frances McDormand, chef Alice Waters, and Third Eye Blind. Stephen Jenkins of K.
“Bolinas is known for being so exclusive and isolated that it’s only accessible via unmarked roads, so before the days of GPS, locals The state used to tear down the signs on the road so that outsiders could not find it.” told Mansion Global.
In total, the house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Talucci and his wife have painstakingly restored the interior while maintaining the look of a traditional, low-key Northern California beach house. Think wood shingles, exposed beams, and lots of shiplap. In the kitchen, the couple even went so far as to preserve the home’s original Douglas fir flooring. Additional highlights include a main-level primary suite with outdoor shower and patio, recreation room with built-in wet bar, and sauna. In a nod to the house’s musical lineage, there’s even a guitar-shaped swimming pool that Slack designed himself in the ’70s.
“The expansive family room was home to a practice stage where members of Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, and other legendary musicians prepared songs and jammed into the evening,” the listing notes. “Like these timeless classics, this home is truly one for the ages.”
