The fortieth edition of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, one in all the important thing stops on the road to the Oscars, will happen from February 4-15, 2025 – two days longer than previous editions of the American Riviera festival to permit for extra programming to have a good time milestone celebration — a festival announced Thursday.
“As we enter our 40th anniversary, we are proud of what we have achieved and excited about what lies ahead” – SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling – wrote within the statement. “We will be announcing some surprises over the next few months.”
Given Santa Barbara’s geographic proximity to Los Angeles and the calendar proximity to the ultimate round of Oscar voting (which in 2025 will happen from February 11 to 18), the festival attracts the largest names within the Oscar race yearly.
At the start of this 12 months, the thirty ninth edition of the festival attracted, amongst others: eventual Oscar winners Robert Downey Jr., Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Billie Eilish, Certificate, Ludwig Göransson, EmmaThomas, Cord Jefferson, Justyna Triet, Arthur Harari, Jennifer Lam AND Holly Waddingtonin addition to nominees Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Mark Ruffalo, Annette Bening, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright, America Ferrera AND Lily Gladstone.
The 2024 festival also featured a program of over 200 movies from 48 countries, attracting filmmakers from so far as Turkey, India, Israel and Sierra Leone, half of whom were women.
Tickets for the 2025 festival will go on sale in August with a 25% discount. The festival program and schedule shall be announced in January 2025.
